Suing Household Products For Injuries And Deaths

As shocking as it may sound, there are many products in your home right now that can kill you. Many of us have no idea of the risks involved in using these products, and many of us blindly trust manufacturers when they tell us that their items are safe. Within the past few weeks alone, there have been a number of shocking stories about household products causing fires, injuries, and even deaths. But which products do you need to avoid in the modern era? And perhaps more importantly, how do you sue after using deadly or dangerous household products in Florida?
Two Children Die of Asphyxiation After Using Weighted Blankets
During this holiday season, many of us stayed cozy with warm blankets and plenty of hot cocoa. This included many children. But for the two children who used weighted blankets during this holiday season, the consequences proved to be deadly. On December 23rd, the CPSC reported that Target had been forced to recall hundreds of thousands of weighted blankets after two children were fatally asphyxiated.
The commission reported that small children can become “entrapped” inside these blankets, preventing them from receiving oxygen. This is exactly what one 4-year-old girl and one 6-year-old girl experienced when they lost their lives. These incidents will almost certainly lead to a personal injury lawsuit against the manufacturer and perhaps Target. As of right now, Target is simply offering refunds for whoever purchased the products.
Washing Machines Recalled Due to Fire and Smoke Inhalation Hazards
On December 27th, the Miami Herald announced that six models of washing machines had been recalled due to serious fire and smoke inhalation risks. All of these models were sold by Samsung starting in 2021, and the total amount is over 660,000 units. Even though the washing machines have been on the market for a little over a year, there have been 51 reports of these washing machines smoking, melting, overheating, or starting fires. This has led to at least ten instances of property damage.
But more worryingly, at least three individuals were treated for smoke inhalation as a result of these issues – perhaps experiencing permanent lung damage as a result. Samsung is offering to fix the affected units via a free WiFi download if the washing machines are connected to the internet. Personal injury lawsuits are likely for the three instances of lung damage.
