Suing Government Agencies For Crashes In Florida

Lawsuit7

Sometimes, government agencies are responsible for some of the worst auto crashes in Florida. If your crash was the result of government negligence, you have every right to sue and recover compensation for your injuries. You may be struggling with medical expenses, missed wages, emotional distress, and many other damages. Paying for these expenses can be downright impossible without funding – especially if your injuries are preventing you from working. But can you really sue if your crash was caused by a government agency? Let’s find out:

Florida Man Dies After Crashing into Road Ranger

One recent example of a crash potentially caused by a government agency involved a so-called “Road Ranger.” According to the Department of Transportation, Road Rangers are “roving vehicles that patrol congested areas and high incident locations of the freeway.” They also “clear travel lanes of minor incidents and assist motorists.” Despite the fact that these vehicles are supposed to assist with accidents and congestion, they can actually become involved in crashes.

This occurred on February 28th of 2023 when a Florida man driving a Toyota pickup truck collided with a Road Ranger on the Buckman Bridge near Jacksonville. For reasons unknown, these two vehicles crashed – sending the pickup truck barreling over a concrete barrier wall and into the water. The driver of the Toyota died in this wreck while the Road Ranger was not hurt. Troopers explained that the cause of the crash was under investigation.

Other Examples of Accidents Caused by Government Agencies

There are many other examples of crashes caused by government agencies. Perhaps one of the most common examples involves first responder vehicles such as fire trucks, police cars, and ambulances. Due to the hurried nature of emergency response, innocent drivers can easily become “collateral damage” after being struck and injured by these vehicles. And these crashes aren’t just caused by first responders. They can also be caused by a whole range of government vehicles, including USPS trucks, social services vehicles, garbage trucks, street sweepers, and any other vehicle that is owned and operated by a government agency.

Finally, these crashes may also be caused by government agencies that fail to adequately maintain roads or provide clear signage. Roads with excessive potholes, cracks, and other defects may result in lawsuits. The same goes for roads with overly confusing, misleading, or incorrect signage.
