Disney Finally Reaches Settlement With Family For Foot Crushing Incident

InjuredChild2

Suing a big company like Universal Studios can feel intimidating – even if you have a strong case. You might have suffered serious injuries during your time at an establishment like the Universal Orlando Resort, and you might desperately need compensation for medical expenses, missed wages, emotional distress, and many other damages. Unfortunately, the combative nature of these corporations often forces victims to wait many years before they can get access to this crucial financial support. But the most important thing to remember is that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. A recent lawsuit shows that if you hold out for long enough, you can get the compensation you need.

Family Receives Confidential Settlement from Universal

On January 19th, it was revealed that a Brazilian family had finally received a settlement from Universal for a tragic foot-crushing incident at Universal Resort in Orlando. While the specific dollar value of the settlement was not revealed, it must have been enough for the family to drop their lawsuit and cover all of their damages. This lawsuit took many years to settle, as the incident occurred way back in January of 2019.

It all started when the family’s son decided to visit the popular, nostalgic “ET Adventure” ride. According to the lawsuit, the boy got stuck between the offloading area and the moving components of the ride. The ride then apparently began to move, crushing the boy’s foot and causing a range of injuries.

These injuries included several bone fractures across his legs, toes, and foot. The scene was also apparently quite gory with significant blood loss. According to the family, the boy has been in and out of orthopedic surgery as a result. Despite this medical attention, the injuries are said to be permanent, and the boy was even held back a grade in school due to the time-consuming treatment.

Despite this, Universal reported the injury as “foot pain” on their official accident write up. They also claimed that the child was not being properly supervised, and that the boy was not following the posted signs that warned visitors to keep their hands and feet inside the ride vehicle. However, none of the family members could read the English signs, as they were only fluent in Portuguese.

Universal may have attempted to defend itself at first, but eventually they decided to settle out of court and move on. This shows that perseverance can have real rewards when it comes to personal injury lawsuits.
